Higher Education coverage for the Wall Street Journal
When I approach a Vox video I often am attracted to stories that feel new or of right now. And I think that the Great Migration is a story that is both deeply rooted in history and yet in many ways still unfolding. So when I discovered the topic and the ongoing debate over whether the great migration is continuing, I found it to be utterly fascinating. I had to make a video on it. This piece took a great deal of research and fact-checking (about 3 weeks between writing, production and animation.) I was lucky to secure interviews with Pulitzer-prize winning journalist Isabel Wilkerson, author of The Warmth of Other Suns, as well as William Frye, a senior demographer at the Brookings Institute. The two pair for what I like the continuation of a conversation about a sprawling, historic moment in American history.
